Be careful, but make sure you enjoy what you are collecting. Do your homework about the items you are going to collect. Do not pick something because someone else likes it. Remember it is not easy to make a fortune by collecting stuff. A collection is what you want it to be, and it could be anything from fine art paintings to movie figurines but the one thing collectors all have in common is their passion. Collecting doesn’t have to be expensive, and the only cost for some collections is time.

Decide what appeals to your fancy. Anything can be collected. The most common thread among collectors are the memories a collection brings them. The right collectibles are different for everyone. Almost every collectible category has items to fit every budget.

There are two ways to buy, either locally or online at websites like www.myfrogcollection.com, and although it is easy to jump in and start buying at an auction site online, but first check the stuff out locally and in person so you can learn about the feel and look of an item in person first. Visit antique malls and flea markets in your area. Learn more about the characteristics of a piece and problems to look for that might not be evident when purchasing online. Make note of the local prices, many times it might be more affordable to buy locally and not pay the extra costs for shipping. It is important to know the value of any collectible to decide whether it is a fair price or if someone is overcharging for it or not.

Find a book about the collectibles you seek. Even if the book is older it can still teach a person about why something is more valuable than something similar or give you other needed clues in your search. Finding the right book should help you understand part of the story about a collection.

Maintain a journal about where you purchased something and how much it cost. It is great to have documentation about your collectibles for a variety of reasons. Do it on the computer or just buy a notebook. Keep a record of what you paid, when you bought and where.

The most fun in collecting is finding like minded folks to share your finds, trade with and learn more about your collections although for me it wasn’t easy to find people who were interested in collectible frogs you can find them by looking for an online collectors club or online forums where these collectors gather.

The great part of collecting is to show it to others. It is also fun to go out and try to discover what has happened to items I have collected in the past and how they have eventually ended up in my hands.

I also have learned that it is necessary for me to get rid of some of the collectible s I have gotten at times to make room for new ones. Some people don’t love the collectibles in the manner that I am accustomed to. Even though they may not love it like I do, I still let them know the memories associated with the collectible. The best part is when the memories are preserved.
